Really terrible unless you long for "Mexican" the way your mom made it in 1982, with McCormicks seasoning packets, cheap meat, and "salsa" from a ketchup company. The building has all the atmosphere of a failed and cheaply re-furbed Arbys. The churros are excellent and they have free refills on pop so stop in for an afternoon sugar rush but avoid the main dishes.

I've been known to wake up in a cold sweat and shouting for Boca Chica Fried Flour Tacos. Overboard? Maybe a bit, but man these are sensational. The crispy yet almost chewy texture you get from the tortilla is amazing. Very well stacked with meat, cheese, tomato until it's coming out the top. Rice and beans are very good and very authentic. The salsa bar is fully stocked with their homemade salsa and some jalapeños. Just one salsa?!?! Yeah, that's all you'll ever need. The salsa is as addicting as the tacos. Good bite, very fresh tasting, a good saltiness. Burritos are pretty solid too if you know what you're doing when ordering. Red Chile Pork burrito, enchilada style. The enchilada style is the key. Smothered with piping hot enchilada sauce and covered in cheese. Fabulous. The Mole is very good too. Service? It's order at the counter, darn near fast food style. I've never really cared how some goon working a register treats me, just get the order right and answer my questions. Which is something they've always done well. It's well worth the trip to the taco house. Get a bunch of those fried flour tacos, sit back, enjoy, and just try to wipe the smile off your face. Won't happen.

Boca Chica Taco House is one of my favorite fast - casual places to grab a quick bite to eat & here's why; -The homemade chips & churros are to die for! -Taste & price wise, the food is above Taco Bell or Taco Johns but not at Chipotle quality. - The deep fried soft tortilla shells are too good to be true and take a standard taco to the next level. - Parking: free parking & easy to get in & out of the lot. -Service: not too slow, not too fast. Customer service is average. My only gripe Boca Chica Taco House is that they give you a small amount of guacamole & queso when you order the chips with a particular dip/ sauce.

Stopped for a quick lunch. I had the fried flour tacos with beef and my husband had the soft shell chicken both were delicioso. They serve a side of either rice or beans so we had one of each and we split them. For the two of us.the bill was 12.00 dollars. The food was good quick service and always a great buy.

If you want authentic fried tacos and burritos, this is the place to go. -the tacos use REAL beef and the spices they put in the beef aren't hot but as an amazing flavor. The tacos shells homemade deep fried are worth the price itself! -quality is Better than a Chipotle or any other fast food brand. -the price for the food you get is the best in the city. -friendly staff and clean restaurant

I love walking into the front doors of the Taco House. The smell of fresh corn fills the air and my mouth starts to salivate. I have yet to find a place that makes a flavorful taco such as the Taco Houses and their salsa is to die for. Most of the staff has been there a long time and I know this since I have been going there for 9 years. me some tacos

I have had there fried tacos and there fajita tacos they are so good. I used to come here a lot when I used to work in the area. You can't go wrong with the Boca Chica Taco house. If i were just in the area not even hungry I would still stop and get something just because its that good. They also have fresh salsa bar very good!!

Authentic tacos! Best tacos in St. Paul. Friendly service. No wasted money on ambiance but the food is amazing. Good and fast. Can't be beat.

One of my favorite lunch spots: My sister & I always order the same thing: Combo meal with enchilada & we substitute the soft taco for the deep friend taco for only .50 cents more. It also comes with your choice of rice or beans with a large fountain drink for only $5.99 and did I mentioned their salsa is delicious? It's fresh pico de gallo and none of that liquidy Taco Bell crap. SUPERB I must say. I'm drooling as I'm typing this. DEEP FRIED TACO

Decent tacos, decent prices.... The service isn't spectacular - more like any fast food joint. But what can you expect for the price? The nachos come in a pretty generous size and the flour tacos are great. The amount of meat they put in the tacos is rather small compared to the amount of lettuce. Occasionally the salsa bar is empty. It's a decent place though. You can get full for cheap.

We love this place -- take out for us (although you can eat in). The main reason we love it is that they actually season the food instead of piling on onions. No onions unless you ask (and no tomatoes unless you ask). The number 7 is our standard order. We go several times a month. It's just across the river.

Living in St. Paul, I have access to some of the best tacos in the state because right across the river is the District Del Sol, a Latin neighborhood full of restaurants. There are lots of places where I can get an authentic Mexican food. Along with the authentic places, there are plenty on spots that serve what most Minnesotans are accustomed to, an Americanized taco. You know exactly what I'm talking about. A tortilla, ground beef with a hint of spice, lettuce, and cheddar cheese. If you're lucky there may be a packet of taco sauce to squeeze on it. Bland. The perfect "ethic food" for our Minnesota taste buds. This is the kind of fair that Boca Chica Taco House serves up. Located on Wabasha, near the caves, the taco house has been around since 1975. Along with tacos, they serve all types of Mexican fare like enchiladas, burritos, and tamales. Sara and I have been to the Taco House a couple times now, and on both occasions we were happy with our food. We are white kids from the Midwest after all, so we grew up eating this version of Mexican cuisine. My wife really likes the beef and cheese burrito, and I'm a fan of the fried chicken tacos. It's basic, good Mexican-American food, at a good price. The place is always busy, so you know we're not the only ones that like it. Packed full of the whitest people in the neighborhood. The Boca Chica Taco House is a place you go to get Mexican-American food you grew up eating. However if you're looking for authentic, walk down the street, and find a place serving people with a more "southern" heritage.

On a recent visit for lunch, I ordered their chicken tacos, soft shell, beans and beverage. My companions ordered beef tacos, soft shell, one with rice and one with beans, and beverages. The counter service was so-so, nothing to compliment there. The food was only so-so, too. I've had much better (specifically, at Casa Lupita out in White Bear Lake). I don't think this is a place I'd seek out in the future.

No bueno. I was in the mood for tacos and we stopped by this joint to order "to-go" for a late lunch on a Saturday. Pretty basic order: five tacos to-go. Nevermind the 30+ minutes it took to get the tacos at 1:30pm on a Saturday...it was after the 5 minute drive home where we opened the package to discover the relatively cold taco meat. C'mon, folks--I want to like you, I really really do--as your big sis across the street has brought me many a delicious meal--but a long wait for cold tacos just doesn't cut it. No bueno!

This is a nice alternative for the fast, convenient on the go mexican meal. Love their tacos and the shells. Meat is always a generous amount and they taste like real tacos versus the tacos with meat that look like sloppy joe meat crammed into shells packaged in New Jersey. It's fairly close, convenient and appealing.

I don't know what my problem is with no reviewing the places I love the most. Taco House is the Mexican Fast Food of my childhood. Green Chili Quesadillas, Barbacoa Flautas and Taco Burritos. Mmmmmm. Five stars just for the insane cheesy awesomeness of the green chili quesadilla. It's almost dangerous to eat if you don't want to get messy.

Chorizo & egg burritos are pure comfort food & the crispy tacos are outstanding! Budgety, delicious meal.

Ordered a half dozen tacos for takeout. No big deal, nowhere I'd return anytime soon.

Wholly serviceable Mexican food, made to order, at a price point within site of the chains. Food is solid but not spectacular (for a point of reference, I'd rate Taco Smell at 1*). Service is prompt and friendly. My beef enchiladas were served smothered in cheese, but the beef filling was ground (not slow roasted and pulled as in the best enchiladas) and dry. Beans were a bit soupy and mild. The mexican rice was rice. If you are in the area, you're far better off here than some fast food chain. That said, you can get a much tastier meal at El Burrito Mercado.

Good local fastfood. A little inconsistent for me though. The food is ok, cheap and american style tacos. Not great, but at least not Taco Bell.

I can't say I was impressed, but I can say I was full when I left. I ordered a little of everything because I wanted to see how the things I loved in Texas compared to Minnesota's version. The tamale was decent, nothing to write home about. I did appreciate that it was served wrapped in paper so you can eat it on the run. The chicken flautas were super dry, and with no other sauce than salsa to dip them in, it was a sorely disappointing experience. The papitas were eh, basically tater tots with cheese inside. The enchilada was probably the best part of the meal. It was by no means authentic, but the sauce is a combination of enchilada gravy and cheese, lots and lots of cheese. I will also give props for the salsa. It was spicy and delicious.

The food here has always been extremely bland, I have to resort to using the Heinz taco sauce packets that are available. I get the cheese enchiladas meal (#1), it used to at least look like someone made it and put it in a dish to be cooked, but this last time I went, the food was in a plastic microwave meal type of dish.Clearly, it was previously made and probably frozen, then reheated to be served. Yuck. I will not be ordering that again and will try to avoid going to this restaurant ever again. Only when my husband really begs, will I go there again and I will probably just get a sopapilla and be done with it. This place is really expensive for what you get and if they are just reheating frozen meals, I can spend my $8 elsewhere.

We were in the hood and had heard good things about the Taco House, so we gave it a whirl. Long line when we first got there which is always a good sign but it moved very quickly. Counter order person was so-so, not too friendly but not rude either. That will not matter once you taste the salsa in the next room and eat one of their fried tacos. I ordered a fried taco and a taco burrito. My daughter ordered the same plus a side of beans. I love their beans and will most definitely order them next time. The fried tacos were awesome and the taco burrito was OK, nothing over the top. I will not order that next time but nothing wrong with it, I just liked my tacos better. They have a salsa/jalapeno bar you can help yourself to which is super nice. Love that! Having free jalapenos and homemade salsa is enough to make me fall in love with a place! I can not wait until we are over in that hood again so I can order more fried tacos.

My husband and I went to church in West St Paul today, and he wanted to stop in here-I guess he used to eat here a lot. It's good-cheap-ten bucks for two meals-and it was nice to eat outside and look at the St Paul skyline and play backgammon outside. I got a chorizo and egg burrito, that tasted just like my dad used to make. Since he's not Mexican, it's probably not saying a lot, but it brought me back. We got chips and guac, which needed some salt. They had a good salsa bar, and my husband got a bean and cheese burrito. Better than Taco Bell-they got my husband's order wrong at first, and gave him a beef burrito, and he hated the way the beef tasted-he liked the beans and cheese though. We also shared a nice bottle of pineapple soda-which made me miss Mexico. All in all, a nice Sunday excursion.

WOW. I can't believe that nobody's written a review for Taco House yet... so, I guess I'll have to phone this one in from the left coast... Mmmmm Taco House...This place peddles some good grub! It's nothing too special to look at, but they've got a fresh salsa bar and really good food. I'm getting hungry just thinking about their fried flour tacos -- those things are so tasty that they have to be really bad for you... I can't speak to much of the rest of the menu because once I found the fried flour tacos, the rest of the menu didn't exist for me, so I've long since forgotten what else I may have tried there...

Ill I can say is deep fried flour tacos, deep fried floured tacos, and deep fried floured tacos. The rest of there food is ok but nothing worth driving from Maplewood to eat. There deep fried tacos however are worth driving from Alaska to eat, best around and thats all you need to order from this place.Staff are'nt super friendly and the decor is fast food but I don't come here to make friends or look at pretty decor, I come here for deep fried flour tacos.

A good cross between americanized Mexican food and authentic Mexican fare. Cheap and with generous portions, it's definitely a place to stop by while on the West Side. Only downside is that food not made during the lunch and dinner rushes tends to be sub-par (I don't know if it's sitting around or what). I highly suggest going here when it's busy, even though you might have to wait 10 minutes for your food, it will be worth it.

I used to come here a lot, especially in the summer. I usually order a hard shell beef taco with tomatoes. A long time ago they were automatic, but the price of tomatoes went up so now you have to specify. This particular taco needs them, if for any reason to give it some juice. I love the cheese enchiladas. Warning: eat carefully or you can get cheese stuck halfway down your throat. I've had the taco salad, very good, but they are skimpy on the sour cream and they charge extra for a packaged tube. They have some sort of homemade, deep fried flour tacos. It costs extra and not necessary, in price or oil. The staff gets really put out if you're indecisive, especially regarding the taco. So be prepared to say hard, soft, or flour taco, your choice of filling, and tomatoes or they automatically come without. I remember in the summer, how nice it is to eat outside, just overlooking Wabasha St. and how pleasant it was. Other then that everyone is there just to get their fix.

I grew up in this neighborhood, but was never overly impressed with the Taco House. BUT, either their food has changed over the last 10-15 years, or my tastes have. I stopped in for a quick bite to tide me over until dinner on my last visit home, and it was actually pretty good stuff. I ordered the deep fried taco, and it was hot, fresh, and well seasoned. The tomatoes lacked any flavor, but then again, it was the middle of November in MN. They did add a little bit of brightness though. My mom ordered the bean and cheese burrito and that was good too. It wasn't one of those burritos-as-big-as-your-head deals, which is just fine with me, I hate gigantic burritos. The beans weren't overly salty, but they put way too much cheese on it. I guess some people wouldn't complain about that sort of thing. The prices are really reasonable - go out and support your local taco joint! (Even if it is a bit more on the American taco side, rather than taqueria.)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
